Don’t Miss the Point
These days, antisemitism is on everyone’s mind.
And rightfully so.
We’re worried. We’re hurting. We’re searching for answers.
What should we do?
More security. Better PR. Stronger hasbara.
We have to fight back.
We have to protect ourselves.
And yes — we absolutely need to do hishtadlut.
We have a responsibility to act, to defend, to do what makes sense in the natural world.
But if we stop there… we’re missing the point.
We’re treating the symptoms — not the root.
This week, the Torah spells it out for us.
Parshat Behar opens with Shemitta — six years of work, followed by a full year of rest.
It mirrors Shabbat. It mirrors creation.
And it forces us to ask:
Who really runs the world?
Because Shemitta only makes sense if we believe that Hashem is in control — not the market, not our effort, not our logic.
Then Parshat Bechukotai lays out the consequences.
Walk with Hashem — and the blessings overflow.
Turn away — and pain, fear, and exile follow.
Not as punishment.
But as a wake-up call.
A cry from Hashem:
“Come back to Me. Trust Me. Let Me carry you.”
What’s happening around us is tragic.
But if we only fight the symptoms — we’ll never truly heal.
We need to fight with our efforts — and for our souls.
Yes, take action. Yes, do your part.
But also return to Torah. Strengthen your bitachon. Build your relationship with Hashem.
That’s the root. That’s the source. That’s the only thing that truly makes a difference.
Because when we walk with Hashem,
We don’t just survive the storm.
We rise above it.
